Oedematous and Hypersenstive Feet

The wheelchair user that the following build adaption was made for experience hypersensitivity in her feet. In addition to this the tissue viability of her feet was compromised and frail due to the amount of pedema present.

Issues Highlighted

The wheelchair user was unable to place her feet onto standard footplates as this aused pain and there was an increased risk of pressure areas and skin breaks as she was unable to wear shoes.

Specialised build completed

An adaption was made to place comfort pads from stump boards onto footplate hangers to provide a soft surface for the wheelchair user to place her feet. This allowed the wheelchair user to have the base of support but which wouldnt compromised her skin integritiy but also maintain independent transfers as they were fitted to swing away footrest hangers opposed to footboards.
